After having to cancel a planned family trip overseas due to Covid-19, we decided on an adventure holiday, hiring a boat, to explore the Whitsundays. After settling in for a night at the marina, early the next morning Deano gave us a thorough 2 and a half hour presentation on sailing, anchoring, mooring and operating Due West. He also mapped out an itinerary of the best places to snorkel, fish, and swim with the turtles. We were also told where to find a giant clam and which resorts we were welcome to visit. Deano then took us out of the marina to ensure our nominated skipper was comfortable operating the craft, then after returning Deano to the marina, we set out for an adventure of a lifetime. Put this on your bucket list. Sailing the tranquil waters of the Whitsundays is amazing. There is so much to see and do that every day brought new highlights. Feeding fish by hand, a visit by a cockatoo, seeing giant turtles and dolphins swimming beside us and yes, we found the giant clam. A memorable holiday we will not forget.

Put this on top of the bucket list...It was my first time sailing. Our guide's detailed brief was full of great advice and locations to get the best out of your trip... Each anchorage or mooring offered something different. Clear blue waters, white sands, snorkelling and the history of Nara inlet and Molle island were just spectacular. Due West is a beautiful boat suited for families and is easy to sail.I will definitely bring my family back to sail this beautiful part of our country again. I highly recommend it. Thanks to the team at at Portland Roads, I loved every minute of this adventure.

My family and I (4 adults and 2 children) just spent a week sailing the Whitsundays on board Due West. It was a week we will never forget, beautiful weather, calm water, snorkeling (unbelievable sights) fishing, connecting with family away from our normal busy lives. Just had an unforgettable week on Due West!! What an experience! Who needs overseas holidays when you can wake up to the sun rising and the sounds of nothing but the waves and the birds around you and then catching your dinner and eating it as the sun sets on another amazing day on the water. I took my entire team on a 4 day/3 night charter and we had an AMAZING experience with the crew from Portland Roads. The entire process was seamless - from the initial communication/planning to the sailing itself. We felt like everything just perfectly feel into place and it was exactly what we hoped it would be. The experience Portland Roads offers is unlike anything else you'll find in the Whitsundays. He was thorough, patient and generous with his time. Throughout our trip we felt well advised and supported. The boat was wonderful. It had everything we needed and more. It was comfortable, spacious and beautifully maintained. The weather could’ve been kinder on some days but even in the swell in the passage, Portland Roads handled superbly.When we stuffed up a couple of times (once on the water and again upon our return), Mike went above and beyond to help us out to make sure our holiday went without a hitch.We absolutely recommend Portland Roads (the company and the boat) to anyone thinking of bareboat chartering in the Whitsundays.
