What an incredible experience sailing on Whitsunday Freedom. The briefer Brad was knowledgeable and informative before we set off. It gave us the confidence we needed out on the water on our own. There was so much space for 7 women and we felt in safe hands with a great safety briefing before we set off on our charter. The catamaran was so stunning and we enjoyed every minute of our time out on the water. The opportunity to snorkel in various places, see coral, various sea life and swim with the giant trevally and wrasse was unforgettable

We just sailed on" Lucy" with my family. What a fantastic experience. The weather in the first two days was quite windy. "Lucy "handled it like a dream! Such good advise and service from the proprietors. The cooking stove and BBQ was great .Fridges and freezer were great. Storage was excellent. Beds were super comfy.Having a little boating experience would be a GREAT advantage though ha ha. The seas were crystal clear. Great advise where to anchor/moor for the night. The weater for the rest of the 5 days was superb! We did not want to go back. We will book to do this again as soon as we can. It was just good for your soul.

Fantastic holiday. Sailing, bushwalking, swimming, snorkelling, lounging around reading books. If you're looking for a holiday that teenagers like, ours absolutely it. When we went ashore the marina's at Airlie and Hamilton were helpful in boat handling, and had great bakeries ! We took Portland Roads which was well equipped and easy to handle. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and efficient and Danny was great at briefing us and suggesting a stunning itinerary.

We recently returned from an amazing time at sea, exploring the Whitsundays on the yacht, Lucy, courtesy of Portland Roads Yacht Hire. Our contact, Brad, was exceptional in every aspect—from the initial introduction and training to daily planning, communication, and the final debrief. The facilities at the harbour were excellent, providing easy access to clean toilets, showers, and an entertaining area conveniently located right next to the yacht. This made our pre-departure and post-arrival experiences smooth and enjoyable. In early May, we experienced southeasterly winds of around 15-25 knots. However, Brad's daily updates and comprehensive communication helped us plan our journey to maximise both safety and enjoyment. His local knowledge ensured we saw the best of the Whitsundays and found the safest and most picturesque mooring spots each night.Lucy is an exceptional yacht, spacious enough to comfortably accommodate the six of us. Although we encountered an issue with smelly toilets due to a faulty check valve, Brad assured us this would be addressed promptly. Despite this minor inconvenience, we had an absolute ball and are already planning our next trip with Portland Roads Yacht Hire.In summary, the combination of Brad's expertise, excellent harbour facilities, and the beautiful yacht made our Whitsunday adventure unforgettable. We highly recommend Portland Roads Yacht Hire and look forward to our next journey on Lucy.

OMG ,WOW, just had the most amazing adventure on "Lucy" with 5 close friends sailing the Whitsunday Islands. I have never been on a catamaran before and was a tad nervous, but this boat was incredible. The day we left was "ordinary" weather wise with 20-25 kn winds and rain. The ride to the islands from Airlie Beach was bumpy and we got splashed with water but the boat was solid and had no problems handling the conditions. The great thing about Lucy is that we could sit inside which was more comfortable. Once we reached the islands it was much calmer and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had 3 couples on board , each with own bedroom and bathroom which was fantastic. Surprisingly spacious with 2 separate eating areas ( inside or outside). The front of the boat was a great place to stretch out while on the move. We went at the end of May and had forecast strong wind warnings every day and some scattered light showers. We reported in to "Brad" every day and it was through his expertise and guidance, we safely sailed to the best locations each day based on weather conditions. This was really reassuring. Some days had lots of sunshine which made us appreciate the clouds as it did get quite hot. We did get to sail Lucy with no motors and this was really special. I can't recommend this experience enough. Bucket list tick.

We just got back from an incredible week with a group of 7 sailing on Ruby Sunday. This is without a doubt the best way to see the Whitsundays!! None of us had any experience but we were well briefed by Mike and with a bit of common sense and teamwork, we found it so easy to get around. Communication to check our plans everyday gave us peace of mind. The sunsets and sunrises were super special as was the snorkelling. We saw turtles, dolphins, squid, Māori Wrasse. We’re already talking about how we can get back there asap!

  • Our week on Whitsunday Freedom was amazing! Despite above average rainfall and winds the boat made our voyage extremely comfortable. Brad was fantastic and knowledgeable providing helpful advice and recommendations along the way.

Sailing the Whitsundays is an amazing adventure and Portland Roads were exceptional. Our boat 'Freedom' was fitted out beautifully with everything you could need and Brad was very thorough in his debrief so that we were comfortable and confident in handling the boat's operations. This set us up for a wonderful week of both motoring and sailing, weather conditions permitting, around the various islands. Brad was quick to respond if we had any concerns and gave us daily recommendations on the best places to visit relevant to the conditions on the day, and they didn't disappoint. The coral we saw was breathtaking along with the wonderful marine wildlife. I'll never forget our encounters with the manta ray and turtles in particular. If snorkelling is not your thing we also enjoyed some lovely walks and took in the spectacular scenery. You really can't get the same experience staying in a hotel and going on a day trip for an hour or two.Sailing the Whitsundays gives you a complete immersive experience in one of the Natural Wonders of the world and it was an absolute privilege. I truly couldn't recommend the holiday and Portland Roads more, thank you.

Spent the week 12-19 April onboard Whitsunday Freedom, sailing around the Islands. Absolute magic! There can't be a better way to explore the Whitsundays:Sailing where you wantSnorkeling on spectacular secluded reefsSwimming with turtles!Eating like a kingExploring stunning pristine forestsConstantly surprised by the life around the boatLying back in the sun readingLaughing, playing, working together and living like millionaire rock star sea dogs!Being gently rocked to sleep each night in a luxurious cabinI felt like a kid again. It's the most exhilarating, relaxing and exciting holiday I've had in years.I was with friends this time, but would love to do it again with family. I spent the week constantly thinking of people I know who would love it, but who wouldn't? And here's a pro tip for parents (or anyone wanting to escape): there's no phone reception on the other side of the islands, so it's a real break from your usual life. And the way Portland Roads run the show is exceptional. Our man Brad did an outstanding job of preparing us for the trip and supporting us at every point along the way. The satellite link means you can always get an answer to any questions about the boat, the weather, winds, the best places to visit etc.Do it!

  • We spent the best week on Ruby Sunday. The boat was in great shape. All the staff were super helpful. Mike our boat manger made sure we were safe and in the best spots for the weather conditions. I can highly recommend Portland Roads!
